Fairbanks Pride 2011Fairbanks celebrates Pride 2011; Four A’s needs your votes to get a Toyota; Summer Osborne performs in Fairbanks and Anchorage; and RuePaul’s Drag Race winner “Raja” appears at Anchorage’s Kodiak Bar & Grill. Those events and more, plus a preview of what’s coming up next week.

Statewide

  • Four A's: Alaskan AIDS Assistance AssociationVote Friday to help Four A’s win a Toyota through Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program. Vote for Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association at www.facebook.com/toyota.

Anchorage

We’re starting the weekend early, because there’s a couple of events Thursday too!

  • PFLAG Anchorage and Identity are having their annual volunteers picnic Thursday evening at Goose Lake, 6-8 PM.
  • Lauren PotterLauren Potter of “Glee” is helping Access Alaska celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act Thursday night at West High.

And now, the weekend proper —

  • Integrity, the Episcopal GLBT advocacy group, meets at Waldron Hall at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church the third Friday of each month at 6:30 PM.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch“Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is at Out North with one show on Friday night and two shows Saturday. This is Hedwig’s second-to-last weekend, and it’s a show you don’t want to miss. So don’t miss it!

  • Anchorage weekends drag on in fine style. On Friday, Mad Myrna’s Friday Night Diva Variety Show; the Crazy Horse’s Illusions Show on Saturday night. And an extra-special treat at Kodiak Bar & Grill this Saturday night, as the Kodiak presents Raja, crowned “America’s Next Drag Superstar” in season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.  One night only!
  • Open Community Mosaic party at Out North from 10 AM to 4 PM Saturday. Come be a part of creating a large scale mosaic that will grace Out North’s walls, permanently!
  • Ever Ready Light will be playing Sunday afternoon at the Anchorage Downtown Market.
  • Miss MeMe’s Gospel Show promises a great evening of fun Sunday at Mad Myrna’s, from 5-7 PM.
  • Summer OsborneSinger/songwriter Summer Osborne will also be at Mad Myrna’s, immediately following Miss MeMe’s show (approximately 7 PM.)  Fresh from the Fairbanks Pride celebration (see below), Summer Osborne is a singer/songwriter from the St. Louis, MO area. It’s difficult to place  her in a genre category, but her music could be described as folk soul, acoustic rock, and piano pop. If Adele, Phoebe Snow, and Joss Stone had a love child… it would be her. Find Summer on MySpace or her fan page on Facebook. Summer will also perform Monday night at a house concert, also in Anchorage.

Fairbanks

It’s a big weekend in Fairbanks, as the Golden Heart City celebrates Pride 2011!

  • Pride FoundationPride Foundation Fundraiser and Float-Building Party. Enjoy a fun Friday evening of community building and giving! Help the LGBTQ and allied community of Fairbanks build the float for the Golden Days Parade, and learn how you can support Pride Foundation‘s grants, scholarship, and leadership development efforts in Alaska!
  • Fairbanks Pride 2011. In addition to marching in the Golden Days Parade with a ginormous rainbow Pride flag, PFLAG is bringing up Summer Osborne to perform at the family friendly Pride Picnic right after the parade. Go, Fairbanks!

Summer OsborneSummer Osborne at the Blue Loon. Following Fairbanks’ Pride Picnic, the St. Louis, MO singer/songwriter will continue her Alaska debut in an evening show at the Blue Loon, with DJ and dancing to follow. It’s difficult to place Summer in a genre category, but her music could be described as folk soul, acoustic rock, and piano pop. If Adele, Phoebe Snow, and Joss Stone had a love child… it would be Summer. Find her on MySpace or her fan page on Facebook. Summer will also be performing Sunday and Monday in Anchorage (see above).

Juneau

  • SEAGLA Friday Social at the Jaded Lounge in the Goldbelt Hotel.

Coming up next week

  • Regular weekly events during the week include Gay, Joyous, and Free AA at Anchorage’s Gay and Lesbian Community Center (Monday); Anchorage Front Runners weekly walk/run (Tuesday); and the Mat-Su LGBT Community Group at Vagabond Blues in Palmer (Wednesday).
  • Summer Osborne will peform a house concert Monday night in Anchorage.
  • Next weekend in Anchorage: “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” will have its last weekend at Out North!
  • Next weekend in Fairbanks: Raft with Queens and Divas on the Chena River, and follow it up with the Fairbanks Ducal Ball XIX!
  • Next weekend in Juneau: SEAGLA Friday Social at the Jaded Lounge in the Goldbelt Hotel.
