It Gets Better, the book: A “message in a bottle” to LGBT youth
In the summer of 1978, two essays in a feminist anthology were all the info I had beyond the feelings of my own heart to let me know it was okay to be a lesbian. Today, the It Gets Better Project & similar projects are how LGBT elders can communicate the same message to isolated LGBT youth. Continue reading

Coming out
In celebration of National Coming Out Day 2009. As Julia O’Malley pointed out after Sullivan vetoed the Anchorage equal rights ordinance, it’s not laws that change people, but personal relationships. Which is why the most important work I’ve done in the struggle for equal rights for LGBTQ people is simply to live my life, openly, as who I am. Continue reading
