The veto

Some pigs are more equal than others.

Equality, Anchorage-style.

As is written in Anchorage Municipal Code 5.10.010:

The public policy of the municipality is declared to be equal opportunity for all persons.

By his veto of AO 2009-64, Mayor Dan Sullivan has just revised that policy, as follows:

Some persons are more equal than others.

The next step is to change the signs that greet visitors driving into Anchorage or arriving at the Anchorage airport, thusly:

Welcome to Animal Farm.

Welcome to hypocrisy.

If I could trust my voice not to break, I would call you to offer my condolences and encouragement to keep up the good fight. But today I can do neither — it’s suddenly gotten too hard. Please know that I admire what you’ve done on the ordinance fight, my heart goes out to you and that tomorrow my throat won’t be broken.

Thanks, Pam. Believe me, I know: it’s because of people like you that I know that the smug “some animals are more equal than others” people of the world like Prevo, Minnery, Fagan, Sullivan, Burke & their ilk will at some point be defeated, finally & irrevocably.

I am heart sick and ashamed of Alaska for a lot of reasons and most of them have to do with discrimination.
