I still go to Side Street every Saturday, & there are some other folks who consistently show up -- Barbara Soule & Rob, a guy from the local writing group, and his wife Karen. Rob & Karen are becoming really good friends.

In my case, the car thing is because I just haven't gotten around to getting another one. I feel like I should first get rid of the old one, which is sitting in the parking lot with a bashed in windshield & needing a new clutch. Not worth my expense to fix, given it was a $450 car that's not capable of road-tripping -- though it's in every other way been a great car that I used for 5 years.

I see the last post here was in 2010 before you tripped off to Down Under, are you still doing this Mel? I really love how you describe the workings of the group and wish I could get there myself but the travel from home is too hard for me now even in a car. I noticed that cars are disappearing from my group of friends. I wonder if it's because of their concerns about the environment or something else. Probably too expensive at over $5 a gallon for gas.
The point being though to say how much I like the format of the group.

I love side street!!! I lived in anchorage from aug to dec 2009.. George n deb became like family to me.. They're great people with huge hearts!! I'd walk in and say hey pops what's mom up to?! "deb ur sons here!!" haha.. I made an every day appearance, and would never have to tell George or deb what I'd like to drink cuz they already knew!! A steamy hot mocha with whipped cream!! The best mocha in the world!! I still crave it when I taste other mochas.. I was sad leaving anchorage because that meant leaving the cozy confines of side street espresso, and the warm company that came with it. If anyone reads this and finds themselves standing in line at sidestreet, be sure to tell George and deb that Kyle misses them and can't wait to come up and visit from the hot Florida sun and get myself another amazing mocha!! And of course whipped cream on top!!! If they ask Kyle who, just say Kyle, marks nephew, UPS.. they should remember.. :)

Barbara, sorry if there was confusion about last week. I was in Spokane. I saw Lynne on Tuesday at the Loussac before the Assembly hearing; she said she was hanging out w/ you upstairs & I asked her to tell you about me being gone last weekend, but maybe she forgot?

Anyway, I'm back in town now, & will be there tomorrow.

BTW, not this week but the following week (July 25) the G Street Art Fair is happening again, so parking will be affected. There are some nearby parking garages though. (I take the bus so I never need to worry.) I got a pretty cool item at the Art Fair on June 27, which I need to put up in my apartment still.

Side Street Saturdays is the day of the week to which I look forward. I've done a lot of writing as a result: over a hundred 8x11 sheets of paper so far and it's growing everyday..... There are 14+ pages of poetry. Having a day to focus on writing seems to have spurred me on to write a great deal more.

I enjoyed writing at Side Street this Saturday. I came a little earlier than noon so I could get started with my writing. Sinking my heart into writing was helpful in completing one phase of what I was looking fwd to doing today. I feel like it is helpful for me to meet with others in this was on Saturday. Thanks to all of you for contributing.
