The pdf released to the ADN, et al., of so-called records is a contradiction of itself if you just work some numbers.

Note that this figure appears twice (is at least double-counted) as are the next three lines below it on page 2.

They are counted in the Department of Law – Ethics sub-total of $41,574 on page 1; and they are counted a second time under the “Ethics complaints” heading where they are the last four items before the sub-total of $26,849.

Wow, good catch, Me, I entirely missed that. Just to clarify: what Me noticed is that on page 1 (the Office of the Governor’s spreadsheet), the DOL’s total for ethics complaints from p. 2 ($41,574) is shown near the bottom of the page under “Additional through 6/23/2009.”; but several of the same ethics items go into that total also show up on p. 1 under the “Ethics complaints” subheading. In fact, every item that’s not in bold under that subheading has been doublecounted. There are, however, some DOL items (from p. 2) that do _not_ appear under the p. 1 “Ethics complaints” subheading: this appears to be because they did not fit into the “total through 3/24/2009) period. Possibly they were rolled into the nonitemized “Department of Law” (as opposed to the separate “Department of Law – Ethics”) line under “Additional through 6/23/2009.”

Very much looks as if whoever put the page 1 spreadsheet together: (1) was drunk or stoned; (2) was an incredible amount of pressure to put the spreadsheet together to back up Palin’s explanation of where the $2 million figure came from; and (3) doesn’t know the first thing about doing budgets. I wonder what his or her checkbook looks like.
