Hi, wow that was quiet informative. My grandfather is actually Adward Manyosi who was gunned down just before becoming mayor of Soweto in 1984. I was researching on him on the internet when i came accross your post. Gr8 write-up. Cheers.

Mark,
Very interesting article. I had no idea that you were involved in this debacle. Now I understand your position much better and see where you were coming from in your argument regarding religion. A word of advice though, never chase a devil!

Hi Mel. Thanks for your kind comments. It still amazes me that the 'right-wing' Christians will follow the likes of Prevo, Palin, Bush, Fox News, etc, and demonize a person like President Obama. Regarding Prevo's ill actions, I sincerely don't believe his followers really care. He gives them a sense of security by telling them how to live, what their beliefs should be, and sketching a world that is bifurcated between "us vs. them".

btw: I was Student Body President at East High school and when I attended Prevo's church, he would use me as a prop to sell the Baptist Temple message. When he wrote that I was a "disgruntled" but he didn't know why, he just couldn't understand why his bizarre and deceitful actions might be a cause for me to speak out. To me, it's a greater sin to know something is wrong and to remain silent on the issue.

Keep up the good work with your Blog.

Regards,
Mark

Mark, thanks for writing. Both then & now, I have much respect for your integrity & fidelity to the truth with regard to the whole "devil costume" incident. It must have been pretty rough to discover that someone you as youth & young man had so admired & respected, proved to have such feet of clay. I'm still amazed by how many continue to lionize him in spite of his many lies & prevarications.

How are the ends anyway justified by means of dishonesty? If he is dishonest in his means, could it be that his account of the best ends is also suspect, also based on lies & misinterpretation?

Hi, I am the Mark Travers mentioned in the Blog, 'Prevo’s devil masks'. I wished I would have replied to this post back in May 2009 but only now saw this post today.

Anyway, the fact is that Mr. Prevo at first stated he didn't know who the folks in the Devil costumes were. When I later spoke with him at his Church, he laughed about it and said he knew about it all along. I was so upset that I stated that I felt the congregation should know about this bizarre situation and he told me to my face that if I stated anything to anyone within his Church, he would have me physically thrown out of the church. Yep, this from a pastor that had baptized me, and from the Church that I had played football for. Anyway, to me, Prevo will always be a Pastor that really believes that the 'ends justifies the means' regardless of the damage he inflicts on other people who have opposite views than he. I have no respect for him and that’s why I don’t even call him Dr. Prevo.

This post is an example of how bloggers are now writing history, leaving eye witness reports to supplement the official history books. Search engines make these reports easy to find. Sure, there are also revisionists, but the good stuff, like this post, is documented, rings true, and can always be checked. Thanks.
