Sunday, 2 July 2006: Hatcher Pass
My best friend Lori & her partner Ellen are up visiting from Seattle, so instead of writing today I went with them & Lori’s sister Cindy up to Hatcher Pass. We did a bit of hiking around Independence Mine, including a lot of uphill to some of the buildings beyond the main site. I was pleased at how relatively easy it was for me to do that climbing: the walking & biking I’ve been doing since the Start Walking program began has really helped me to get into better shape.
But I don’t think as good of shape as Cindy, who will be running the Mount Marathon race on the 4th of July in Seward. She says she’ll be happy to finish the race without injury — to finish it at all seems a incredible achievement to me, who would never consider running such a race.
I was glad to hear too that Lori & Ellen have both been improving their diets & getting lots more active, & have lost quite a bit of weight too, all in an effort to improve their health.
Despite the hiking, by the time we returned to the car I was still short of my 10,000+ daily goal, so when I got home I did 20 minutes of dancing. Today was a break from weights day, but I’ll get back on them tomorrow.
Day total: 10,204 steps.
