Friday, 30 June 2006: Continuing the new routine
The routine is shaping up as: warm up first by dancing (34 minutes this morning, equivalent of 4,454 steps), followed by weight/strength/resistance work (today focusing on calves & glutes, but I also did some shrugs for my shoulders), & then stretching to increase flexibility & also cool down (my hamstrings are really tight!). But today was a day off again: I’ll have to modify the routine again after the 4th to accomodate for the much shorter time I have in the morning after getting up to prepare for work; but at least in the meantime I’m getting used to doing strength training again.
In the afternoon I went with Rozz to her business to participate in a qigong/Tai Ch’i session with a friend of ours. Tai Ch’i isn’t my favorite exercise, much to Rozz’s chagrin as she loves Tai Ch’i (in fact, teaches it). I lose track so easily of the movements in the form, which frustrates me, & then I get bored. But I am trying to at least learn a basic 5-movement form because it is a good calming exercise, plus there are some qigong exercises I enjoy. I did not, however, convert the time spent doing Tai Ch’i/qigong today into steps because of frequent pauses for discussion as we learned. (According to the step conversion chart, it’d be 116 steps per minute of Tai Ch’i.) Afterwards Rozz had to run an errand, so I walked home from her business to finish off the day’s exercise.
The scale continued to confirm that yes, I really have started to lose weight again. When you’re obsessed with that fact, as I currently am, you step on the scale every least excuse you get — quite amazing how much weight fluctuates during the day.
Day total: 10,404 steps.
